The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session. The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team opted for a different programme. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting. The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the fence. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the session, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight. The seven-time champion finished practice in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's car in third, over half a second slower than the Australian's time. Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
