British Jews Shifting Towards Green Party and Reform Party as Backing for Major Parties Declines

Research has uncovered a new political divide among the UK Jewish community, with support growing quickly for the Greens – driven by younger and non-Zionist Jews – while older traditional men favor Reform UK as confidence in the dominant political groups “collapses”.

Approval of the Conservative and Labour parties among UK Jewish voters had dropped to 58% by July 2025 from almost 84% in 2020, according to a report from a leading demographic center, which stated it was “the weakest support we’ve ever recorded by a significant margin”.

Generally, Labour has been supported by more “less observant” Jews while the Conservatives is traditionally favored by more “religious” Jews.

Meanwhile, nearly a fifth of UK Jewish voters (18%) were backing the Greens by mid-2025 – which researchers described as “surprising” given the party’s stance on Israel, which it described an “segregationist regime” in a decision at its 2024 party conference.

Backing of the Green Party rose 9% among UK Jewish voters between the 2024 general election and mid-2025, exceeding the 1% rise in approval of the Green Party among the general public over the identical timeframe, and preceding the leadership of a leading member who states he is a “devout” Jew but “anti-Zionist”.

The report said the rise in Green party support suggested “for a notable portion of Jews, domestic priorities and liberal ideals take precedence over global matters”.

Meanwhile, support for the Reform Party grew among the Jewish community from 3% in the 2024 election to 11% in mid-2025. Yet the rise fell behind the 14% increase Reform enjoyed with the general public.

“Jewish voters are less prone [than the broader public] to vote for Reform UK [11% vs 28%], but more likely to back the Greens [18% vs 7%],” the analysis said.

A senior researcher said: “The Reform Party is more prone to appeal to male, elderly, traditional, and pro-Israel Jews; the Green Party are more likely to appeal to newer generation, non-religious and non-Zionist …[but] it is essential to recognize that it is also an element of a broader, broader shift driving the British public as a complete group.”

Nonetheless, the “surge in Jewish support for Reform – a political group whose rhetoric on immigration and patriotism would normally be expected to estrange ethnic groups, like Jews” was called “striking” by the study.

“Large segments of the Jewish population may lean towards parties offering resolve and certainty, despite ideological baggage” when traditional groups were perceived as “indecisive or hostile”, it added.

The report declared: “For the earliest occasion in modern Jewish community history, backing of the Conservative and Labour parties together has dropped under 60%.

“Given that this is mirrored in the broader public too, it is not just a data outlier – it may indicate a structural shift in the political views of Jews.

“Several factors seem to be fueling this division: the war in Gaza and its divisive impact on community views; growing anti-Jewish sentiment, resulting in a recent security breach at a synagogue; and a broader collapse of trust in mainstream parties.

“In combination, these factors are pushing Jews in the direction of organizations that deliver direction – whether through popular appeal or far-left ideals.

“If ongoing changes endure … British Jews are predicted to become further split, causing additional internal community tensions.”

The research body, which follows community changes, polled 11,000 UK Jewish individuals for the report, called The shift away from two-party support? New developments in the political preferences of British Jews.

It found that in the previous year, Jewish voters were more inclined than the broader electorate to vote for the two main parties, with 44% supporting Labour, against 34% of the general public, and 32% backing the Conservative Party, versus 24% of the broader public.

By mid-year, support for the Labour Party had slumped by 13% among the Jewish community, against a 9% decrease with the broader voter base, while backing for the Conservatives among UK Jewish voters declined by 4%, paralleling the broader population. “Low and stable” support for the Liberal Democrats has moved from 8% to 9% among the Jewish community.
